South Alder Farms, a berry producer in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland, is dedicated to growing, producing, and harvesting high-quality agricultural products. Recognizing the importance of sustainable farming, South Alder Farms embraced the Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) Program to further their commitment to environmental stewardship.
Collaborating closely with an EFP Advisor, South Alder Farms took advantage of the no-cost, confidential EFP to identify and address climate and environmental risks on their farm. Together, South Alder Farms and their EFP Advisor completed the comprehensive EFP workbook, identifying potential risks and developing an action plan to safeguard natural resources while maintaining farm productivity.
“After facing challenges with scorch virus in our fields, we knew replanting wasn’t just about replacing plants — it was about protecting our long-term goals for the farm,” said Kourtney Krause, the Director of Quality Assurance and Food Safety at South Alder Farms. “Through the Environmental Farm Plan Program, we were able to make responsible long-term decisions and strengthen the farm’s productivity and sustainability for years to come.”
By participating in the EFP Program, South Alder Farms is leading the way in climate action and environmental responsibility, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
Funding for the Environmental Farm Plan program has been provided by the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, a $3.5-billion, 5-year agreement between the federal, provincial and territorial governments to strengthen the competitiveness, innovation, and resiliency of the agriculture, agri‐food and agri‐based products sector. The program is delivered by IAF.
