Improving Agricultural Mental Health in BC.

Through the Agriculture and Food Workforce Development Initiative, IAF is delivering $755,000 to AgSafe BC to develop mental health resources and tools for BC’s agriculture sector. This funding will support the expansion of AgSafe’s mental wellness in agriculture initiative that encourages producers to reach out for help and offers mental wellness resources for the agricultural community.

Activities include:

  • Mental Health Awareness – Developing a BC-focused program to train agricultural community service providers to monitor mental health and intervene where necessary, based on the success of a similar program in Quebec.
  • Farmer Outreach and Care – Providing access to one-on-one counselling; in person, virtually or by phone to BC’s agriculture producers, workers and their families.
  • Digital Resources and Marketing – Develop online training specific to the needs of the BC agricultural community by adapting existing mental health awareness programs.
  • Mental Health Resilience – Promote expanded use of the Avail app across all of agriculture in BC.
