Water Productivity
Water productivity is critical to the long-term sustainability and resilience of agriculture in British Columbia. As climate change increases the frequency of droughts, water shortages, and extreme weather events, efficient water use helps farmers maintain food production while protecting vital water resources and aquatic ecosystems. Improving irrigation infrastructure and water management allows producers to maximize available water, reduce waste, and support healthier stream flows and fish populations. Programs funded by the Government of BC recognize that strengthening water security is essential not only for agricultural productivity, but also for the future of food security in BC.
